Design & ThemesDark mode vs light mode: which theme to choose
Light or dark? The question comes up as soon as you personalise a card. There is no universal right answer, but there are simple criteria to decide based on your profession, your image and your visitors.
What each mode evokes
Light mode breathes simplicity and clarity; it reassures and reads everywhere. Dark mode shows a premium, modern touch and makes images stand out. The choice already says something about you.
Readability above all
Whatever the mode, what matters is contrast. Light-grey text on white tires the eye as much as dark grey on black. Always aim for a clear gap between text and background.
The viewing context
A card is often viewed outdoors, in bright sun: there, light mode keeps the edge. In the evening or a cosy setting, dark mode appeals. Think about where people discover you.
Consistency with your brand
If your visual world is bright, light extends that impression; if your brand plays on dark elegance, dark mode is the natural fit. The card should speak the same language as the rest of your communication.
Sometimes let people choose
Some visitors have a strong system preference. A card that stays impeccable in both modes avoids jarring anyone and shows the care given to detail.
In practice
Test your card in light and dark before deciding, check the contrast of buttons and text, and keep the mode that suits you best. You can always change it later.
